Oh boy does 4 Kids tone down the violence. Almost every instance of characters being sent to the ‘shadow realm’ in the 4Kids dub is censored ‘I’m going to murder you’ plot points. Even though it’s significantly toned down from the original first few arcs of the manga, which are just bizarre. So yeah, in the original Duel Monsters Yugioh anime, people die. I honestly ended up stopping reading the manga because it was getting to be too violent and morbid for even my tastes I’m not entirely sure if it’s included in the anime or not, but Bakura gouges out Pegasus’ eyeball. Other screwed up subplots include Kaiba being totally obsessed with murdering Yuugi/Yami and building an entire theme park to try to do so, Mokuba (Kaiba’s sweet lil brother) attempting to kill half the cast by forcing them to compete in a Russian Roulette with poisoned food, Anzu/Tea being drugged by a classmate with chloroform and almost assaulted, Jounouchi/Joey being kidnapped by a gang he’s been hanging out with and tortured with tasers before Yami electrocutes the gang and kills them all, quite happily, to save Jounouchi, multiple people getting set on fire, a man getting his head bitten off by Shadi’s pet crocodile Amet monster, the list goes on and on. IT’S FUCKED UP.īefore the concept of Duel Monsters was even introduced to the series, Yugioh was about Yami Yuugi basically being a murderous fuck who enjoyed punishing people with ‘shadow games’ that ended with losers being, uh, electrocuted to death, burnt alive, and a whole host of other horrific deaths. The tumbleweed is like a no pressure reminder.

It re-sparks the conversation on their terms Sometimes it backfires, but other times it gives me the chance to laugh with a stranger about the ridiculousness of the whole scenario. There’s no better cold email icebreaker than something you both find funny. The Tumbleweed depicts the same message, but without being so awkward. While “just checking in” is a nice gesture, it’s a little desperate. Here’s why the Tumbleweed works so well: It’s light Loving the beta version of Context! Think we can tell the Openbeta Community about it this Thursday?īen: Oh so sorry, read this on my phone and thought I responded! Totally, let’s do it. They can also be used to show a bad joke or a character otherwise making an absurd declaration, with the plant rolling past in the background and the wind effect emphasizing the awkward silence, similar to the sound of crickets (according to Wikipedia!).

John Wayne: LOL! Yeah let’s do a call this tuesday.įor those of you unfamiliar with the visual symbol, Tumbleweeds have come to represent locations that are desolate, dry, and often humorless, with few or no occupants. Me: Sweet! Want to jump on a call after the weekend? You interested - i know you mentioned you were bored and wanted to come work with us a few months ago. We might hire a BD person for this new thing we’re working on. Disclosure: not everyone finds it funny, but a lot do.
